The review

DarkOrbit Reloaded has been running for well over a decade and still does one thing extremely well: you click, you fly, and within a minute you are shooting something. There is no lengthy tutorial standing between you and the game.

Three factions divide the map, and the contested zones between them create a constant low-level war. Corporations organise defence and resource runs, and coordinated groups control the best gathering areas.

The presentation is dated and progression rewards persistence, but as a quick, low-commitment action MMO in a browser tab it remains hard to replace.

How it plays

  • Point-and-click ship flight and combat
  • Three-faction contested map control
  • Ship, drone and laser upgrade paths
  • Corporations and group resource runs
  • Seasonal events and boss encounters

Strengths

  • Immediate to pick up
  • Runs in a browser on modest hardware
  • Long-established, knowledgeable community

What to expect

  • Visually dated
  • Upgrade grind is long without spending
  • Open PvP zones can be unforgiving

Optional purchases

Free to play. Uridium and premium accounts buy better equipment and convenience; competitive PvP strongly favours upgraded ships.
